I do not design stuff for the web in any professional manner. Instead, I
have decided to use the web to purvey useless drivel to the steaming masses
I have lived in many places, fleeing one clime to another, and ironically,
I have settled right back where I started. After high school, I fled Philadelphia
because frankly, I just couldn't take being in a big Northeastern city where I
had grown up. So where did I go? Northfield, Minnesota. Small town middle America.
4 Years in the frozen tundra (do you have any idea what -30, no including wind chill
feels like? So, off to Boston, where I performed menial retail duties for as long
as I could stand it before going totally postal. After 8 months I left, spent a month
at my parents house, and moved on to sunnier shores.
Orlando, Florida was my destination, to attend a music recording trade school,
which I did, and proceeded to get the most out of it, while having a whopping good
time at the same time. Then it was back to Philly, where it took my 4 months to
realize I really had to be in New York to be in the music recording business. And
in New York I stayed for 6 years, while my life took several completely hairpin turns.
I slaved in the music industry for like 3 years, and had some amazing experiences
that I will certainly never forget, but a whole lot of factors made me change my ways.
All of these factors made me hate music recording: the hours, the sucky pay, the bad
treatment at the hands of talent-less, arrogant schmucks, a band my friends were starting,
and a girl. The band went on to be a great source of enjoyment for 3 years. I lived the
life of a rock star, or at least a struggling rock musician: long road trips, lonely beds,
loud, loud music, countless hours of practice, frustration, and joy. But it was that woman
I had met who really sealed the deal. It turns out that the dorky domesticated life of
home, wife, pets, grocery shopping, doing laundry, spending your life together, all the stuff I
had been fighting for years... it turned out that life was actually paradise.
So we got married, picked up and moved back to Philly because, well, frankly, it's a
great relaxing city to live in. And it's mad cheap. We rented a 4 bedroom house for what
we paid for a one bedroom apartment in New York. And already, 4 months down the line, I
can't even conceive of living in a one bedroom apartment. And, we got a dog. Lyle's his name,
and is my new best friend. Prety soon there will be pictures of him here.
