Sea Change
Sea Change by Beck is a really great album. In some ways,
it is much more in line with Mutations than Odelay or Midnight Vultures. The focus is on songs,
rather than on Beck's sort of post-modern answer to white boy rap. Not that I don't like those
records, but I am much more convinced by the song writing on Mutations and Sea Change. Sea Change
in particular is a moving album of very sad songs about lost love with very beautiful, understated
music. I highly recommend this album.
Mermaid Avenue
Billy Bragg and Wilco singing songs they wrote with
unrecorded Woody Guthrie lyrics sounding like old
Rolling Stones. There is a second album of this project that I have not heard, but based on my total
enjoyment of the first, I highly recommend it.
